STOP WAITING TO BE READY

July 12, 2026

Welcome

After taking a break from this newsletter, we've spent a lot of time asking ourselves what we wanted it to become.

The easy answer would have been another photography newsletter—one filled with announcements, promotions, and reminders to book a session.

But that didn't feel like us.

If you've ever spent time in our studio, you know the conversations almost never stay focused on photography. Somewhere between choosing outfits, getting your makeup done, or looking through your images, we end up talking about life.

We talk about marriages that have weathered hard seasons. Children who seem to grow up overnight. New babies, new careers, birthdays, losses, dreams that have been sitting quietly on the shelf, and the courage it takes to start again.

Photography has simply given us a front-row seat to the stories people carry.

So we decided this letter would be about those stories.

Every Sunday, we'll invite you into a conversation about life, family, marriage, faith, purpose, and the beautiful moments that often pass too quickly. Sometimes you'll hear from Catron. Sometimes from Jermaine. Often from both of us. And somewhere along the way, we'll share the incredible people who allow us the privilege of documenting their lives.

Thank you for welcoming us into yours.

We're so glad you're here.

This Week's Lesson

Stop Waiting to Be Ready

Not long ago, we photographed a beautiful mother-to-be named Shannon.

During our first conversation, she quietly shared something we've heard from so many women over the years.

"I don't take good pictures."

It wasn't the first time we'd heard those words, and it won't be the last.

In fact, if we had a dollar for every woman who apologized before stepping in front of our camera, we'd probably have enough for another studio renovation.

"I've gained weight."

"I'm awkward."

"I don't know how to pose."

"I'll book after I lose twenty pounds."

"I've never liked pictures of myself."

What we've learned is that those words rarely have anything to do with photographs.

They have everything to do with how we see ourselves.

As photographers, we have the privilege of seeing something our clients often can't. We see the warmth in a smile before it's hidden. The tenderness of a mother resting her hands on her growing baby. The quiet confidence that appears the moment someone forgets they're being photographed.

We don't spend our sessions trying to change people.

We spend them helping people see what has been there all along.

Shannon took the leap anyway.

And somewhere during her session, the nervousness gave way to laughter. The self-consciousness faded. She stopped wondering how she looked and simply enjoyed the moment.

Watching that transformation reminded us of something we all need to hear from time to time:

So much of life is lived while we're waiting.

Waiting until we lose the weight.

Waiting until work slows down.

Waiting until the house is clean.

Waiting until the kids are older.

Waiting until we feel confident enough.

But life has a way of happening while we're making those plans.

The truth is, none of us are guaranteed a "perfect" season.

Sometimes the season we're living right now is the one we'll wish we had documented.

Behind the Lens

One of the greatest privileges of what we do is watching people leave our studio differently than they arrived.

It's never because we changed who they are.

It's because, for just a moment, they allowed themselves to believe they were already enough.

That's a gift we hope every person experiences—not just in front of a camera, but in everyday life.

Sunday Reflection

Is there a part of your life you've been putting on hold while you wait to feel "ready"?

What if this season—exactly as it is—is already worthy of being remembered?

This Week's Portrait

This week's favorite image is from Shannon's maternity session.

When we look at this portrait, we don't just see a beautiful photograph.

We see courage.

We see a woman who chose to celebrate this chapter instead of waiting for another version of herself.

Years from now, her child won't see the things she worried about.

They'll simply see their mother—full of love, hope, and anticipation—waiting to meet them.

And that is more than enough.

Until Next Sunday

Thank you for spending a few moments with us today.

Wherever this letter finds you, we hope it reminds you to slow down, look a little closer, and treasure the ordinary moments that quietly become the most meaningful ones.

Life moves quickly.

Don't wait to celebrate it.

With gratitude,

Catron & Jermaine Turner
