There Is Still Fruit Here: Trusting God When You Don't Know What's Next

At the beginning of September, I told you I didn't want to do it all anymore.

Then I shared that some of the season I'm in isn't one I would have chosen.

Last week, I wrote about learning to pivot and having enough faith to consider that maybe the next chapter won't look like the one we planned.

So if you're waiting for me to tell you that Jermaine and I have figured out exactly what's next...

We haven't.

I wish I could tell you otherwise. I like answers. I like plans. I especially like plans with dates, checkboxes and clear next steps.

Uncertainty and I are still getting acquainted.

But something has changed this month.

I've stopped looking only at what's missing.

Maybe I was looking for the wrong kind of fruit.

When you're running a business, fruit is pretty easy to define.

Bookings.

Revenue.

Growth.

Opportunities.

A full calendar.

And when those things aren't happening the way you want them to, it's easy to look at the season and decide:

Nothing is growing here.

But lately, I've started noticing other things.

Clarity is growing.

Courage is growing.

New ideas are growing.

My faith is being stretched.

Jermaine and I are having conversations about our future that perhaps we wouldn't have had if everything had simply continued going according to plan.

We're asking different questions.

We're considering different possibilities.

And I'm becoming much clearer about what I want the next chapter of my life to feel like—not just what I want it to accomplish.

There is fruit here.

It just doesn't look like the fruit I was expecting.

I don't have to know what's next.

That may be the biggest lesson this season is teaching me.

I've spent much of my life believing that if one chapter was ending, I needed to have the next one ready.

What's the plan?

What are we doing?

Where are we going?

But maybe there can be space between chapters.

Space to listen.

Space to pray.

Space to reconsider.

Space to imagine something different.

We're still working. Still planning. Still making decisions. Still praying for doors to open.

But I'm learning that faith isn't always knowing exactly where you're going.

Sometimes it's being willing to loosen your grip on where you've been.

And trusting that the next step will become clear when it's time to take it.

Sunday Reflection

Maybe you're looking at an area of your life right now and thinking nothing is happening because you're not seeing the outcome you wanted.

Look again.

What is growing?

Patience?

Courage?

Clarity?

Discipline?

Faith?

A deeper relationship?

A different version of you?

You can be grateful for what a season is teaching you and still pray for the circumstances to change.

I'm learning those two things can exist together.
